Country star Trace Adkins showed up visibly intoxicated at a recent charity performance in New Jersey. His act was so bad that members of the public made off before the end of the show.

The 54-year-old American singer was the headliner for radio station Rockin’ Country Thunder 106’s Guys with Guitars Under the Stars concert, and he appeared to be drunk on stage as multiple videos published the next day on social media showed him slurring his way through some songs, including the hit “One Hot Mama,” slumping over on a stool and struggling to continue the performance.

You couldn’t hear him except for him mumbling. […] Everyone was picking up their chairs and leaving.

Adkins is known to have struggled with alcoholism in the past and he never hid his alcohol-related problems from the public. In 2001 he went into rehab for 28 days after an intervention from his family, and his most recent rehabilitation effort was in 2014 after he got involved in a fight with an impersonator on a country cruise to Jamaica.

He also wrote in detail about his battle with alcohol in his 2007 autobiography “A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Freethinking Roughneck.”

Many fans of the country singer were disappointed for his lacklustre performance in New Jersey, but the majority have expressed concern over the fact that he has relapsed.

No comment has been made by Trace’s reps on the incident, but in an attempt to make amends after this embarrassing stunt, the country crooner has decided to donate his appearance fee for the event to benefit St. Jude Hospital. And his decision is no surprise to his fans, as he is a big supporter of the American Red Cross and is known for his charitable acts.
